I like being honest and clear. I know what I like, I know what I don't like. Yelling at me that "It's hard to do XYZ" just makes you sound whiny. If it's too hard for you, perhaps you should practice a bit more before submitting it to the public.
That said, if I come across a game that may be good, but it's just not my style, I'll walk away without giving it either a blam or protection point. To do otherwise would be unfair to the creator of the game, or to the public who may like (for instance) an FPS.
And then there are those times when I'll simply leave a score. I won't say a word. Why? Well, in the case above where I don't like the game type, I may ask someone's opinion who does like an FPS and trust their judgement as to the score. Is this being dishonest? I don't think so. Whether a game should be blammed or protected, I feel, should be left up to those people who actually play those types of games. And, since the people whose opinions I ask don't have a newgrounds account ('cause I won't let them as they are my kids-- maybe in a couple of years), it's not like anyone is voting across two accounts.
There are still other times where I simply leave a score, but keep silent as to the good or bad of the game. I may not feel I have anything to add, or my thoughts are more along the lines of "WTF?!?" or "Why in the world was I playing this useless POS?" Not very constructive, but sometimes, and far too often, that's all I've been able to think. Sad really.
What I really want is to be blown away. Surprise me, stun me, don't be afraid of being creative. What I like when I play games often surprises me. I'm not much for maze games, but every once in a while I find one where I really don't care if I find my way out or win, it's just that danged fun. I love puzzle games, but I've seen so many variations on Tetris that I'm about to curse the fact that game was ever created. There's got to be something new that can be done with this genre.
Have fun, be creative, I'll be watching.
